The start
Just to remind you where we started from:2 Oct 2011 (after 1 week)
So - the first moment of truth! A digital scale would be great. I've definitely lost something. It's not quite a whole kilogram so I think we'll call it 750g - that's 3 Lurpaks! I'm delighted. Here's the proof:Weight: 63.25Kg
Stomach measurement: 88cm (unchanged)
And this is what the updated Lurpak index looks like:
Things I'm going to do next week to improve:
- I think I should weigh my carbs to make sure that my portions are not too big.
- 4 glasses of wine is too much - I'll restrict myself to 2
- The bloating has been an issue and I think it's oats. This must slow down the fat burning. So oats only once every 3 to 4 days
I'm definitely not beating myself up about eating the wrong things in restaurants. I'll do my best but I'm not going to stop living!
Alrighty - that's it for the first weigh in.
9 Oct (after 2 weeks)
I've lost again - a little bit less than last week so let's say it's 500g (2 Lurpaks). It's all good and the nutritionist says that I need to lose the weight slowly so slow it is. But it's coming off and I feel much better and I'm enjoying it. Here's the proof:Also, my stomach measurement has gone down a bit: 87.5cm - that's 0.5 cm thinner.
We're getting high tech now because we have a digital scale:
It says I'm heavier than the old fashioned scale but the weight loss is unchanged. We'll work from this scale from now on.
And this is what the updated Lurpak index looks like:
Next week, this index will be more accurate with the digital scale.15 Oct (after 3 weeks)
I am weighing in on a Saturday today because I'm going to be away tonight. This was a really nice surprise:
Now digital scales don't lie -that's a WHOLE kg off!
Also, my stomach measurement is also down to 87cm - that's another 0.5 cm thinner.
And the Lurpak index:
I'm really chuffed. This diet is great.
I think the thing that has made a big difference this week is that I've been very weary of the high GL starch veggies (potatoes, rice, pasta etc). There have been lots of meals where I've avoided them completely and, when I've eaten them, I've been diligent about weighing them.
23 Oct (after 1 month)
Oh my goodness ANOTHER kilogram!
I'm passed the half-way point!
And my stomach measurement is 86cm - that's a whole cm in a week.
30 Oct (after 5 weeks)
Who put on the handbrake?
I've lost nothing this week - kilograms and centimeters remain the same. I'm not going to let this demotivate me. Here are some possible reasons why I haven't lost:
- I've eaten out for dinner 3 times this week and it's difficult to follow the diet properly when it's not completely in my control.
- I drank 5 glasses of red wine and should limit myself to 2 glasses. There's a lot of sugar in red wine.
- I ate strawberries for dessert twice this week.
- I ate 2 avocados this week. I think I'll strike these off the list of permissible food.
- I don't think that the lamb curry was the right thing to eat. Holford says that cooking food for a long period of time increases the GL. Also, lamb is quite fatty and certainly not in any of his daily diet plans.
- I also finished the month of probiotics and decided not to do another month. But surely these weren't helping with the weight loss?
- I also stopped taking the herbal fiber blend. I think I'll start again.
- I've been doing a bit more exercise (because I have more energy!) so perhaps I have a bit more muscle (which is heavier than fat).
All of these things combined must make a difference. I need to be stricter! The good thing is that I haven't put on weight - that would be very distressing!
Weight still the same:
But my stomach measurement has reduced and it's now 85cm which is great.

5 Nov (after 6 weeks)
Weight still the same:
But my stomach measurement has reduced and it's now 85cm which is great.
I've been very good this week and stuck to the diet well (except for the pizza eve and the glass of wine last night).
It is possible that this is my ideal weight. I'm feeling great and all my clothes are loose on me. Looking back on my 'symptoms' 6 weeks ago:
- I haven't had much energy for gym or exercise recently. I definitely have more energy
- By the end of the day, I am often bloated. This is MUCH better. I haven't experienced that agony at all for the last month which is amazing.
- Sometimes I wake with a headache. This has only happened once recently.
- I'm constantly hungry. This is also not a problem. There have been a couple of days when I have felt hungry, but generally, the food is very satisfying.
- I've often got a runny nose. This is also much improved which is quite incredible!

So, all in all, this whole diet is a great experience. I'm not going to be fanatical about losing the 6kgs, but I will carry on strictly with the diet for another 2 weeks. If I stay on the diet strictly for a whole month and don't lose any more weight, then I'm going to take this weight as my ideal weight.
One thing is for sure: I'll never go back to eating the way that I used to. I've learned so much about my body and nutrition on this diet and these things will stay with me forever I hope:
- I won't snack on chocolates and will rather chose a Holford-type snack that keeps my blood sugar level and satisfies me.
- I will be very conscious of the quantity of high GL carbohydrates that I eat.
- I will never eat as much fruit as I used to eat.
- I will make sure that I have a proper breakfast in the morning.
